Fostair inhaler
It can be a very common side effect. If you're not already doing so, use a spacer, rinse your mouth or gargle after use and keep well hydrated. 🙂
Hi Jo85
I had this problem, people thought I was sick, the following advice was given here on Asthma UK, for which I am very grateful:
Gargle with mouthwash spit it out. I also swallow a small amount after gargling. HOARSENESS GONE. 🐈⬛😻
Best of luck

Interested in this as I have told my GP and asthma nurse that my preventer is making my asthma worse and spacer, gargling or rinsing makes no difference. Its like my fostair is causing inflammation.
Inhalers can cause coughing as a side effect but usually that's all it is - a cough reaction due to reflex or an irritation in the throat. It's not actually making the asthma worse or causing inflammation. Not that it's fun to put up with or anything but cough doesn't necessarily mean it's the asthma.
I have been on Fostair 100/6 for 12 months and have similar issues to yourself. If I talk on the phone to my daughter for any length of time I also get a hoarse throat. I use a spacer, I always rinse and if I have a bad throat I use two things . One is a honey and menthol throat 'sweet' immediately after using the inhaler (one puff twice a day) and if I have any other throat issues at other times I swear by taking ie sucking one 'Fishermans Friend' tablet. They are a bit of an acquired taste but once you get used to it, they do work well to settle my throat. Not wishing to sound too negative about Fostair, I must say I never now wake at night and very rarely use my ventolin except prior to exercise on my exercise bike. I am 76 now and have had asthma since my teens and I must say my asthma is now better controlled than ever before. Any side effects must be seen as minor irritants compared to the overall improvement in my condition.
I have also found gargling in plain water after each puff of Fostair prevents hoarseness. If I have an irritation in my throat I suck a Vocalzone tablet (available from chemist shops).
I don’t use that inhaler but to avoid similar effects I use my inhaler directly before a meal. So no need to gargle/rinse, the food removes any residue.
Have something to drink after, it works for me
