Spanish healthcare for British student in Spain

hi My daughter is due to travel to Spain for a year as part of her degree. She has controlled Asthma. She has to have private healthcare as part of the visa requirement and the company she went to will not cover asthma. Does anyone have any experience of obtaining healthcare in Spain that will cover it? thanks

Google companies that cover pre existing conditions. She might need to ring them to discuss things properly rather than just an online quotation. I had to phone anyway to get holiday cover a few years ago as my situation rang alarm bells online - but it wasn't a no, they just needed to discuss it.

Travel insurance is a lot easier to get with pre-existing. Its healthcare for a year. Weve spoken to a couple who say she wont get covered

Oh I see. There must be companies that do it though. Hopefully someone here might know of somewhere.

Consider talking to an insurance broker - or more than one if needed. They should have a handle on what insurances do cover pre existing conditions. Last time I took one out i did just that for the first time ever, and it was both better cover and cheaper than some online options.

Just a random thought that may not work, but there are British expats in Spain and some of them presumably have conditions and need care. I wonder if there's an embassy website, or a forum for people moving to Spain, where you could ask? I imagine it's a question that comes up, especially since controlled asthma is fairly common.

Or are there connections through the uni eg could she ask students who have done this previously? Again, she can't be the only one who's been in this situation with asthma, and you'd hope the uni has connections if the year abroad is a standard thing.
