2nd Dose..Vaccination..more chance of a reaction?

Hi

Does anyone know if, the 2nd vaccination with both Astra Zeneca and Phizer, could cause greater allergic reaction? Although its the same amount of vaccine with each jab, I have heard each job is slightly different in how it works in your body ..ie..the first primes your body, ready for the 2nd..and you are more likely to get a severe reaction to the 2nd..due to your bodies new defence revving up? I would be very grateful to know if anyone has any information on this? I have had my first vaccination but am very worried about my 2nd. Although very highly allergic, with an epipen, chronic asthmatic with other severe medical conditions,I had the Phizer. I had a clot a few years ago, and coupled with the ingredients, they couldn't/ wouldn't give me the Astra Zeneka. I was fine with my 1st Phizer vacc. Best wishes..

That is great you were fine with first Pfizer vaccine..We are all different, & can have none or different reactions .

I can only give you my experience with Pfizer vaccine

1st vaccine : very unwell for 4 days , chills , fever, headaches, nausea

2nd vaccine: Totally fine , I was so pleased.

Until day 4 woke up with badly swollen arm & rash appearing.

Took paracetamol & antihistamine for rest of day, and by next day all symptoms gone.

If any doubts or concerns after your vaccine , remember to use NHS24 for support & talk through any symptoms.

I read somewhere,(can't remember where now!)that the second dose doesn't affect you as much as the first. Still waiting for the second jab so don't know from personal experience!

Hi, the nurse who administered my second Pfizer said that if you have had any reaction to the first, then you are more likely to react again. I had a sore arm first time around and she said in that case, I'd be likely to have that again and possibly other side effects. As it turns out, my arm was sore again, although higher up (more like shoulder pain) and I had the chills/flu like symptoms for a day or so and felt generally worn-out for the rest of the week. My mum had hers later that week, and just like with her first, experienced no symptoms at all. So there may be some truth in what the nurse said to me! Ultimately, your body is reacting to "another" dose of the vaccine, so the symptoms I suppose are a way of your body "showing" you that it's reacting, so is maybe a good thing? But yes, we are all different and some will react whilst others won't at all. Who know, the non-reactors may well be the ones who would be asymptotic with covid itself. Hopefully if you have a wee chat with the nurse beforehand, she will reassure you. Good luck with it :).
