Brown inhaler causing anxiety?

Hello all!

In summary; I was diagnosed in July after doing monitoring my Peak Flow for a fortnight (nurse said results over 20% was an asthma diagnosis. Mine was 43%!)

I do feel it's a mild case, and that perhaps it's exacerbated by disordered breathing.

I digress! I've been sporadic with taking my brown inhaler since diagnosis but the past 10 days been strict and taken in morning and evening but I've also noticed that my anxiety has returned in those 10 days.

I've stopped taking it for 2 days and I've been fine.

Is there a link between the two or is it coincidence? 🤔

Hi

Some inhalers can increase anxiety, but it’s an individual issue. Ie the inhaler that gives anxiety to one person may not give it to another and vice versa.

So you use a spacer? That can help reduce side effects in general, including anxiety! Equally if you’re feeling like you can’t cope with this inhaler speak to your GP, explain the situation and ask to try a different one

If at any time you’re concerned or need advice about your asthma/inhalers in general, the AUK helpline nurses are great and can be reached on 0300 2225800 M-F 9-5. Alternatively their WhatsApp service is 07378 606728.

Hope this helps and you feel better soon

Thank you, Emma.

Yes, I appreciate it's different for everyone, I also have an under-active thyroid so sometimes it's hard to unlock what causes which symptom!

I do use a spacer. Is there a different type of preventer I can take?

Always fun when you have different conditions with similar symptoms 😅

There are loads of different preventer and even different types of inhalers! Here’s a post about different inhalers; healthunlocked.com/asthmauk...

If you speak to your GP or give AUK a call they may be able to advice one to try. But there are MANY different options about 😅
