More guidance has been shared for people with severe asthma who belong to the 'clinically extremely vulnerable' (CEV) group ahead of the lockdown in England. While formal shielding isn't returning, everyone in this group will soon receive a letter, outlining the extra steps they should take. Our website has been updated with this information. Please click here 👉 asthma.org.uk/advice/trigge...

Here's a summary of key bits of advice:

- Everyone in the CEV group should be working from home. If you're unable to work from home, you may be eligible for Statutory Sick Pay, Employment and Support Allowance, Universal Credit, or the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. Since our last post, the government have confirmed the extension of furlough and you may be eligible for this too. The letter that is on the way should act as evidence for any employer to know that you can’t go in.

- While the vast majority of children with severe asthma were removed from the CEV group since the last lockdown, if your child remains on the list they should not attend school and remote learning should be set up. If you're still unsure whether your child is classed as high risk, speak to their specialist.

- We've had many queries from people unsure whether they fall in the CEV group - this is usually from people who now take different asthma medicines. Anybody who meets the criteria should be identified by their GP or contacted by letter.

Everybody else with asthma that is not severe is classed as 'clinically vulnerable' and the guidance for you is to follow strict social distancing. You can find information about what you should now do here 👉 asthma.org.uk/advice/trigge...
