Royal Brompton out-patient clinics

I had a routine appointment at the asthma clinic at the Brompton cancelled due to Covid in April. This appointment has never been reinstated or changed to a video/telephone consultation. Could I ask others here if they are patients whether this is happening to all as I’m not sure if I’ve dropped through the net and have been suffering now for a couple of months ?

I was at the respiratory clinic at hospital in Jan. They said I would be sent an appointment for 3 months time, but it never came.

My husband also had an eye appointment at the Eye Infirmary for March. This was cancelled and an appointment was sent out for October. Then we got a letter to say that that was cancelled and he would receive an appointment 5 weeks before he was being asked to attend.

Looks like there are a lot of appointments being delayed.

Hi,I don’t know about outpatient clinic but I have still been going every 4 weeks through lockdown for my reslizumab treatment, the hospital has really changed now as they have closed all the wards so any inpatients will now be in Sydney st,they did contact me to have a video call but cancelled as I was attending anyway,if I was you I would give them a call just incase you have been overlooked

You say it was routine - so not urgent or important. I think you will get rescheduled once those who have more need have been seen or spoken with

Routine just means it was a regular scheduled one - it doesn't mean Zachie doesn't need the appointment, that it wasn't an important one they may have been waiting a while for, or that they should have to wait behind everyone else, especially when they also mentioned they are struggling and have been for a while.

Obviously COVID has upended everything and some adaptation/patience has been needed, but it doesn't mean their appointment isn't important or that they shouldn't reach out to the hospital, especially when it's most likely admin problems rather than a clinical decision.

Zachie - I'm not at RBH but know people who are and they are still getting appts even if by phone. As others have said I would definitely contact them and follow up, as you may just have slipped through the net. I did go there years ago and found their admin could be a little variable, so some chasing may be needed (and the people I know who go there now still find you have to chase at times to get things sorted). Like Js706 I have already had 2021 appts through at my specialist clinic.

Good luck, hope you get hold of them soon and they're helpful.

Hi .. I’ve been treated there since 2015 and have had several phone consultations since March and I’m going up there tomorrow for tests ...

I would contact them

Hi

I’m not there any more as I moved but I’d suggest giving them a call and asking for an appt as you’re struggling. As they are no doubt now playing catch up (whilst their clinic is still booked) they may be putting some people onto the back burner without realising it. Just give them a call and ask and they should either get you a phone call or an appt

Hope this helps and you feel better soon

I had a routine asthma clinic c appointment for Royal Brompton last week and they contacted me beforehand today it would be via video or phone and it took place by phone as planned. So, I would definitely give them a ring to chase up.

I had an appointment at York hospital in June which was cancelled but I was given two telephone appointments in lieu. I need to have lung function tests repeated and have been told the should happen i four months time. I'm waiting to have a pending diagnosis of hypersensitivity pneumonitis confirmed. However symptoms have improved since I got rid of my chickens so that's probably the correct diagnosis. Still got the asthma though....

As others have already said it’s worth getting in touch and just making sure your referral has all gone through ok and that you’re still on their list!

As even if it’s a long wait for an appointment they should have let you know when it is - I’ve already had letters with appointments through for 2021 from some of my specialists

Ring the secretary to find out what is going on. It is not good if you are unwell and waiting
