Hello folks. New here. Does my being asthmatic mean I’m classed as a “Vulnerable Person “ who should isolate for 12 weeks? Should I get a letter informing me about this?
Vulnerable?: Hello folks. New here... - Asthma Community ...
Vulnerable?
The government advice in the UK includes severe asthma in the Vulnerable Group. I think I read here that we should all take care, but won't be recieving a letter about isolating ourselves (or shielding as they seem to be calling it)
Asthma UK have released current information about this today - hope that helps.
I have severe asthma and have received a sheilding letter and text messages
If you have severe asthma then you will receive a text and/or a letter from NHS instructing you to self isolate for 12 weeks.
Otherwise, in spite of having asthma it may be considered mild and so strict social distancing should be practised when out in public and if you are a key worker, at work.
I think it will depend on the judgement of your GP to be honest. I knew I'd be included & have had the letter, but it came signed by the GP surgery. If you haven't had one by now, that presumably means they haven't put you in the highest risk group. If you are worried, I would call the surgery & ask about it as they will know a lot more about your history.
I don't know how severe asthma has to be, to be classified as severe! My wife hasn't received a letter despite being under Brompton Hospital for over a year & being rushed into A&E twice in October, to be told she may have a form of pneumonia but they didn't know what to do for her. She spoke to her GP on Monday who told her not to go out, which she has no intentions of doing.
