Hi all so yesterday morning I started vomiting and had really bad diarrhoea but both of those have settled down, I haven't been out of bed in 2 days other than to the toilet and I did mis yesterdays dose of symbicort and my back and stomach hurts from being sick etc. But would all this effect my breathing? I do suffer health anxiety so sometimes it's hard to tell

Thanks for reading

Had something very similar a week ago, and yes, it affected my breathing - if only because my back muscles hurt so much from the vomiting that I could only breathe shallowly. Sat and slept with a Hottie in my back, now back to normal, more or less.

Vomiting can affect the top of the airways because it irritates them, so a consultant once told me. I would agree that muscles overused would also give the feeling of tight chest etc.

You poor thing! As others have said, all that tense muscle use over 48 hours will make your rib muscles sore and that will effect your breathing for a couple of days.

And vomit or reflux is an irritant to the upper respiratory tract.

Get back on your asthma meds as usual, drink a fair amount until your back to normal. If someone can go to the pharmacy for you then ask for Dioralyte (blackcurrant is nice). This will help you replace water and body salts, including potassium.

Take it easy, be kind to yourself and line up a special yummy treat for when you're totally better.
