Home ventilation systems

Does anyone know of any research or studies about the effects, and possible reduction of symptoms, of home ventilation systems on people with asthma or hay fever ?

Home ventilation systems are not common but are increasingly being installed in new housing with the objective of improving energy efficiency and air quality. A big issue with them is people usually don't clean or replace the filters often enough. HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters are sometimes available for these systems and some specifications can filter out pollen.

I would like to learn more and would appreciate anyone who can send link to such research. Many thanks.

We have such a system, had it installed about 11 years ago partly with my asthma in mind. Very expensive but has proved well worth it.

Thank you very much for replying.

Can you tell me what kind of ventilation system it is ? Does it ventilate your whole home ? Does it have filters that you change or wash ? Does it have heat recovery ?

Any detailed information you can provide would be helpful.

Thank you.

Yes, it is called Mechanical Heat Recovery Ventilation. We have been very pleased with it. There is a lot on the Internet about it. x

Are you thinking about it for yourself? It was very expensive at the time but well worth. No need for open windows to ventilate the rooms and less condensation. My asthma overall improved. I notice it now when we go to stay in hotels or other houses etc that my breathing is not as good.
