Asthma flare up?

Hi everyone !

I have eosinophilic asthma and was diagnosed in May’19, everything got under control but today I have a chesty cough and when I laugh I sound like a smoker! The question is....could this possibly be an asthma flare up? My peak flow is ok, has been better but I m not in my ‘action plan’ zone! Which is take a pack of steroids.

I know I might be a bit paranoid but I just can’t help think this chesty cough is possibly a flare up!

If you ignore your PF do you feel like your asthmas flaring up? Are you tight/SoB/wheezy/asthma cough? If yes then start your pred and book in to see GP. If no then hold off on the pred (and maybe see your GP anyway 😅). Colds and viruses are very common triggers for asthmatics, however not every cold will trigger an attack! When in doubt, seek help out (😉)! Don’t go by just PF but your symptoms and your ‘gut’ too...

Hi there! Thanks for your reply! I just have what seems like an ‘asthma cough’ but chest doesn’t feel tight...which is good! Had a bit of chest pain yesterday which is normal for me when my chest is irritated.

This is the first time I have been ill since diagnosis so just trying to work out if it’s asthma or just a cough!!! So hard to tell! Luckily I m seeing my consultant on Thursday so that’s good timing!😕

Thank you for your reply. This is the first cough I have had since diagnosis and I just can’t work out if it is an asthma cough...there is an element of panic in me too!! So need to take that into consideration. Luckily I am due to see my consultant on Thursday. I suppose I m just a bit worried that any virus/cold/cough I’ll struggle to fight off but that’s great hearing that you managed to fight off your last cold 👍🏻
