Hi everyone

Not sure if you’re aware but those with iPhone there’s a place in the health app (white box, red heart) to store your details for an emergency... if you’re unconscious but have your phone on you, medics will be able to access relevant information about you (whatever you put down), including conditions, meds and allergy’s etc, even when the phone is locked (press emergency, then press medical ID).

Thought this was common knowledge but speaking to people today (both younger and older than I) lots of people don’t know about it. Not sure if android have something similar, but after discovering an 18yo who didn’t know her iphone had this function thought I’d do an awareness post about it. (Update: apparently there’s a medical ID app you can download on Android if you don’t have it there already, which basically does the same thing)

Hopefully those who are unaware of the function can now go ahead and use it you you want to!

(Image nicked from google 😂... but you can store infor for most things on the page)

I have the Android one - called Medical ID (free) with a red background and white asterisk. Seems to work well. I also have a medical ID bracelet (for adrenal insufficiency more than asthma but mentions asthma) which has the essential info on it and says refer to phone app for more details. It's a basic one from Amazon so I don't have the fancy MedicAlert subscription, I just use the phone app. Thankfully have not had to use it yet!

I have a Samsung Galaxy (Android), and it has exactly the same as this! Such a useful, underrated feature X

Don't need to download an app on android.

All Sonys Xperia phones go into phone settings and has Users. Here says Emergency information where you can put all this info and ICE contacts.

When phone is locked click on emergency and then open emergency information to see it

Just to say it’s moved in iOS 13 (the screen shot is iOS 12) - still in the Health app, but now have to go into Summary, then touch your profile picture to access Medical ID.
