My daughter is wheezy most days during the winter. We went to the hospital today for a review with the Asthma nurse. After needing her inhaler in the waiting room we went into see the nurse, she was still wheezing so the nurse the said take 10. After 10 puffs she was still wheezy so was taken to PDU. (All sats good)
I said to the nurse if we weren’t at the clinic today we would of probably continued to take inhaler until she improved. But was told that’s wrong if 10 puffs doesn’t work then she needs to go to A&E every time!!! I said we would be here every week 🤔 as 10 puffs is definitely not equivalent to a Neb. Anyway after three back to back she was fine after 4 hours with only a little wheeze remaining so got sent home. Anyone else going through same?

Sounds like your daughter needs different inhalers. Though older than your daughter I was in a similar situation at one point and I was getting through so much blue ventilin each week with the odd neb thrown in it was silly. Been on both seretide and fostair over the last few years and found they control things much better.
Agree with this, sounds like she may need a long term controller. How scary it must be for you to see her like that. You must feel helpless. Good luck! I hope you get it sorted and she's feeling better asap!! It's a very tough time of year for asthmatics between viruses, colds, going back to dusty schools, mold and ragweed in the air etc.
As I understand it, if 10 puffs is not working, then yes, a trip to A+E is necessary to try and ease her symptoms in the short term (does your daughter have an asthma plan? I'm sure it says this on mine).
I recently had a spate of multiple A+E trips as my asthma seems to have developed into brittle/severe asthma.
As others have said, it looks as though she may need a review and/or change to her meds. Can you contact her consultant secretary to try and obtain an appt? If not, ask your GP to do what mine did and samend a dax to request an urgent appt.....I was seen the following day and am currently trying to find meds to suit me.
I wish you both lots of luck and hope she gets sorted soon xx
Does your daughter have a spacer? Has her inhaler technique been checked? If 10 puffs not helping it is a trip to A and E or if you are worried before then. I have never heard of airFluSal. A phone call to Asthma UK helpline may be worthwhile.
