I am on pirtion but I would talk to the doctor's for advice
Good advice. I need antihistamines but it turned out that I shouldn’t take Piriton with some of the other drugs I’m on. Over the counter drugs may seem totally safe but can react badly with other medication.
Fexofenadine is systemic it works on the whole body but the higher doses are usually used for chronic hives/urticaria
However in your original post you dont say what strength or what dosage of fexofenadine you are taking?
I don't get hayfever but take antihistamines all year round to help my asthma and reduce skin reactions to things like plants, bites, dust ...
I found if I take the same one all the time it becomes less effective so switch between Loratadine and Cetirizine every few months. When I mentioned it to my consultant he said it's normal for antihistamines to become less effective with prolonged use.
I use fex 180 1-2x day but max 4. I also use avamys or dymista sprays. I also take OTC antihistamines if required on top of it all depending on level of allergen.
I have used the majority (if not all) prescription AH tablets as I have been on fex for years and found it got less effective - long of the short I found one that worked but was sedative and 4x day - a right pain! Used that for a period of time them swapped back to fex and I found if more affective after the break. Now I use fex 120 during winter when allergens less so I get more benefit during summer that way.
Good morning, I have been on Fexofenadine 180mg for quite some time as I have perennial rhinitis, chronic sinusitis & blocked ears, runny nose, sneezing, sore eyes etc but have noticed that it’s no longer working and I have tried everything to no avail.
I am now on pseudoepherine as GP said it’s very effective if you have very severe symptoms but although it’s more effective than all the others my symptoms (as above) STILL break through within an hour or so after taking it, so I have been referred to ENT for more advice and hopefully some help as it’s having a really terrible effect on my quality of life.
Maybe ask your GP what he would recommend for you since Fexofenadine is no longer effective.
Good luck!!👌👍
Hello! I am in the US. I use loratadine 10mg. It’s over the counter now so no need for a prescription. I take one every morning. Non drowsy. This is the generic name for Claritin. No side effects that I can see other than maybe needing to drink more water. It makes you a little thirsty. It takes care of itchy eyes, scratchy throat, runny nose and sneezing. It helps keep my allergies at bay so therefore not as many asthma issues. Also, nasal polyps grow because of continual sinus inflammation and dampness. , so you want to be sure your sinuses stay clear.
I take Cetrizine 10mg. Not the best antihistamine but may be the best of the non drowsy over the counter ones in the USA. Big attraction for me is a paper I read about a yr ago that says Cetrizine has a broncho dilation effect comparable to albuterol inhaler as I am unable to take the steroid inhalers due to eye pressure issues.
I use loratidine every day.
