HI, yes I get back pain around the rib area a lot. I think it is muscular and it tends to happen when I am very breathless, especially if trying to do something such as iron or prepare a meal. I find it eases if I can sit down and ease my breathlessness. I have late onset asthma and emphysema so am very often breathless.
I have a recurring muscle pull under my shoulder blade. It makes breathing difficulty feel worse - hard to get a deep breath in. I never associated with being caused by the asthma though.
I also get this tightness of the upper chest back... but by taking deep breaths..i get relief...
Yes, I also have upper back pain, neck and shoulders due to asthma. It is not muscular, in my opinion it comes from the lungs contraction, and improves with asthma medication and also with air purifiers. No improvement with physiotherapy, nor with pain relieves, nor with any kind of sport or exercise. I just get improvement practicing yoga, mainly because of the breathing exercises that includes.
It is unbelievable but there is no reference at all in the medical literature to this pain as asthma synthom, they only mention chest pain or chest pressure.
Hope It helps
