I was given prednisolone from 1967 to 1991 on and off as required. Unfortunately my asthma got worse and I was prescribed it in 1991 again with the plan to reduce it gradually, each time I tried to reduce it I had a bad attack. I have taken it everyday since then and my maintenance dose now is 20mg per day

Yes, I take it every day at a variable dose (my consultant has told me to increase & decrease it according to how I feel within set limits). The downside for me is the swelling & muscle weakness that comes with it.

I too have freedom as and when I need to increase and how I decrease. I have muscle wastage, osteoporosis, diabetes to name a few. Also constant pain but there again without pred I wouldn't be here

Can I reply to this? May I suggest you read the leaflet enclosed with your tablets. Prednisolone is very good at reducing inflammation in the lungs (and elsewhere) but if used frequently and regularly the side effects will soon appear, one of the worst (in my opinion) is the massive mood swings and lack of control, bursting into tears, taking offence where none is intended. I thought this was all in only my head, but no, it is the Prednisolone. They lower your immunity,(more vulnerable to infection), cause thickening growth of Cataracts and Osteoporosis ( brittle weak bones), retention of water and sugar, swelling in ankles, thinning of the skin and round moon face. I have suffered all of these, and continue to. I have been on and off steroids both tablets and inhaled for over 50 years. On the plus side, without steroids I would be dead a long time ago. There appears to be no alternative around, so Prednisolone remains on my repeat prescription list.

I take prednisolone on an off and my worst side effects are fluid retention and mood swings everything makes me cry when I'm on them. but without them I can't breathe and would probably live in hospital or worse. so pred is on my repeat to.
