I did my peak flow on Saturday morning and it was 450 usual 500. Same evening, then Sundays and Monday morning. Then my voice at lunchtime started disappearing and chest got a little tight?! Peak flow still 450. Rang and got a telephone consultation and was hoping offered a nurse practitioner appointment yesterday. All they had at my doctors. Cancelled it as I thought I was okay ,(didn't recognize my chest was tight why I don't know?!) . Last night woke up in the wee hours went back to sleep and an hour later woke up with coughing Kept coughing and you guess it asthma attack (peak flow 420) Ten puffs of ventolin and I was okay.
Today went to doctors at 8am they could only offer me a telephone consultation again. I went to work and thought I would be okay as I only needed to work til 11:30am.
Upshot was of conversation with doctor was told to start steroid which I took at lunchtime. Chest feels better and pick flow is back to normal. Still coughing a bit.
So I learnt my lesson to listen to my body better, stop trying to tough it out go to the doctors much much sooner! I survived autumn/winter with no problems even though I worked with many many germy children. No colds and flu. I was surprised I stayed so well I thought I was home free. Just shows you never unestimate asthma!

This is very interesting. I needed a course of steroids in late January after months of coughing. Felt wonderful after I finished them for about 2 weeks. I then became snuffly and have been struggling since but I'm now on a different combination inhaler. At the time it started again, I'd sat next to someone at work who had a stinking cold and I've driven myself crazy trying to work out if their cold virus kicked me off and had lingered for weeks or if its early pollen season. This asthma lark is a pain as it seems anything can affect it.
I think we could drive ourselves crazy trying to work out what triggers our asthma. I as my mum would say got a bit lace a fay about my asthma. I tried to ignore it and push through it.
Pollen season has been early this year with tree pollen kicking off in February with catkins not the cherry trees are coming out a Month early.
I hope and pray I am okay by Monday. I have an appointment with my asthma nurse on Monday already made before what happened this week. (God looking after me Even when I make mistakes) It's a catch up from January appointment and talk about my consent appointment last month. I doubt I will changing my inhaler. I am on maximum for what I need. (Fostair nexthaler 200/6 2 puff's twice a day)
I had a productive appointment with my asthma nurse. I was on the road to recovery and the asthma nurse agreed with the consultant to stay on same strength of inhaler. This was my asthma review for the year. Happy and thought I was sorted. However my asthma got worse again and carried on Prednisone tablets. Back doctors Wednesday and today. Small wheeze Wednesday but okay. Went down hill early Thursday morning due to perfumed candle at a friend's, different washing liquid and two trips to curry Pc world (breathless after leaving the store both times) to order a new washing machine.
Last night tight chest, lowered peak flow and upto ten puff's to get my chest happy. Managed not to have to leave nice warm bed for A&E.
Back to doctors today with good GP who knows me very well. Trusts me to know my asthma well. Two more days of prednisolone, not much sleep, lose of weight. Not ideal but necessary to get me back to normal. What ever normal is
