Hi, my son is 7 and has an allergy to all nuts which we and friends are acutely aware of.
His primary school is ‘nut free’ however several kids still bring nut based snacks (packet of peanuts / Nutella dips etc) for break time. The school are saying they don’t have the staff available to check each of the kids snacks.
Does anyone have access to materials / posters/ leaflets we could get printed and distributed through the school or have any other ideas how we could get the schools support or share knowledge and risks with other parents?
Thanks
Brian

I don’t have anything myself, but your best bet is probably going through Pinterest and finding an image that suits your needs. It looks like a few people have created their own leaflets/posters which you can probably download and print if you want to...
Here education is definitely key... finding a way to explain that them giving their child a nut based product (and listing a few ‘unexplected’ ones like Nutella etc) could kill/affect your child (be as blunt as you like as that’s more likely to make an impact) is more likely to have an effect than being nice and gentle about it imo.
You could also ask if you (or someone else) can run an assembly about allergies in general, making the kids aware of the situation too. If your little guy is happy to, he could also be involved and explain what it’s like for him.
As a kid we had a ‘allergy’ assembly and it made a big impact cause kids would refuse to eat the obvious stuff cause they were aware that they might hurt someone if they did. Eventually their parents stopped packing it (think we may have been sent home with a reminder letter about it)
Emma, thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I’ll have a look at the options you have suggested and hopefully find the right thing. It’s just such a constant worry!
You could get the school to warn the parents by letter. Poster's is also a good idea
There are loads of teacher's resource websites around that will have something. Twinkl is the major one (I can guarantee you almost 100% there will be Twinkl resources on your son's classroom wall). It's a subscription service, but there will very likely be a school account. TES is another & there are lots of Facebook teacher groups that your son's teacher may be connected to. If you don't get anywhere, let me know & I'll check the groups I'm connected to or put a message out to see if I can find anything.
Thank for these ideas, we wouldn’t have known about them bar for this forum! I’ll have a search about the on line options you suggest and if I can’t get ‘friendly teacher’ to access the members only resources I might get back to you as suggested. Best regards.
No problem - just let me know. I don't personally have access to Twinkl at the moment as I'm not working in a school, but I'm sure I can find someone who does who can download anything.
Good luck with getting support for your son regarding his nut allergy.
No problem. I also have a severe nut allergy so I understand how important it is for people to be careful around him! Hope you manage to get the message across!
