For me, prednisone helps my breathing during an asthma flair by decreasing the swelling in my lungs. Currently, I start at 40 mg then taper. This is a regimen set up by my lung doc. But I don't need it every day. Being on prednisone comes with risks and side effects. It should be administered under a doctor's guidance.

Thanks for your response. It’s good to know you don’t need prednisone everyday.

When my asthma is bad my GP will prescribe pred. This is usually 80mg per day for five or seven days. My asthma will usually respond well to a week of pred. If there is also a chest infection, then the pred will not affect the chest infection. Pred is a steroid so has serious side effects if taken long term.

Why did you caption your post lung scarring ?

80 is a lot esp if you’re not on maintenance steroids! Do you mean 8 tablets?
