Ive increased my dosage because I was struggling to breathe I was using my ventolin a lot more so I have decided from 2puffs twice a day to 3puffs twice a day I'm feeling a lot better now but does anyone know if this is ok to do .
Fostair 200/6 : Ive increased my dosage... - Asthma Community ...
Fostair 200/6
First of all, I'm not medically qualified, so please don't take this as gospel, but I think it's probably OK. As far as I know, the main active ingredient of Fostair 200/6 is 200mcg of beclometasone dipropionate. I think it has an additional bronchodilator as well (?) but that's basically the same drug as was in the old Becotide inhalers, which were generally seen as safe to 'double up' on if you felt bad.
If you're worried ring NHS Direct, but I'd imagine all in all it's probably OK & all to the good if you're feeling better.
Hi the official advice now is if you are having to use your reliever (ventolin) too much then you might need your preventer inhaler increasing or changing. I would see your doctor or asthma nurse for a check on this. x
asthma.org.uk/advice/manage... I think this link will give you the best advice for your current situation.
As I understand it, the maximum licensed dose of Fostair 200/6 is 2 Puffs twice a day, so it seems you are probably over-dosing which ‘might’ prove dangerous. Suggest you make an appointment to see your GP, who will probably want to offer an alternative method for bringing your asthma under control.
I’m on the same Inhaler. My Consultant told me that 2 PuffsTwice Daily, was the most Inhaled Steroid permitted.
I agree with Matman I am on Fostair Nexhaler 200/6 2 puffs twice a day. This is the top dose for this strength of inhaler.
medicines.org.uk/emc/produc... This is the link to the leaflet for my inhaler and I quote
Dose recommendations for adults 18 years and above:
Two inhalations twice daily.
The maximum daily dose is 4 inhalation
I would strongly recommend that you reduce your inhaler back down to your recommended dose. Go and see your doctor/asthma nurse straight away as your asthma is not under control if you are needing to use your Ventolin daily.
It goes without saying that I don't know enough to query the official recommendations, but I see that the leaflet says that a dose contains 177.7mcg of beclometasone dipropionate (4 doses of which = 710.8mcg/day).
Now I used to take an inhaler called Becloforte whereby each dose contained 250mcg of the same drug & I routinely took it 4 times a day with an option to increase it. I considered it a wonder drug at the time, but you've got me worried now!
I am on the same inhaler and my g.p has increased it to 3 puffs twice a day untill my peak flow improves.. which unfortunatly it hasnt 🙄.. My consultant agreed with my G.P, so i dont think your in danger of overdosing. I would however make an appointment with your G.P as what is right for one person may not be for someone else. They may prefer you to have a course of steroids or an alternative inhaler as it is a very high dose.
Good luck 😊
Wow,I've just come out of hospital on the same inhaler, 2 puffs 4 times a day, plus alvesco 160 4 puffs a days, spiriva 2 puffs, amonopholyn...dunno how to spell that, 2 tabs a day&montelukast. Obviously unlicensedbut my consultant prescribed it&said people will think it's crazy meds!!
However,I wouldn't change my meds without my doctors advise!!
I think I'm in the process of being diagnosed with severe allergic asthma though...so I guess it's a whole different story for me.
