After a battering from a virus, my asthma is playing up. From a normal pf of 580 it’s sitting at 377. (For four days). As per my plan I had already doubled up on my clenil and added ventolin too match as well as using ventolin in between as necessary.
Today i rang the GP who immediately asked me to go in for a neb. I then got sent to hospital. I’m now home with prednisolone to be taken for 7 days starting tonight.
Question: anyone got any tips on what else selfcare I can do? I haven’t really slept since Saturday, despite using six pillows to be upright.
I admit this is the first time my asthma has decided to misbehave - and it’s a touch scary.
Hi there; I can imagine experiencing this for the first time will be scary.
In terms of self-care, we all develop our own ways of dealing with it. For me, I used to sit down, read, play with a chess computer (nowadays I can play online of course!). I know people on here read, knit, etc. Unfortunately, while you're caught in the middle of an attack, your options are limited & you just have to 'sweat it out'.
Luckily it sounds like your GP has responded quickly & effectively, which is really good. Once it does settle down (which it will) pop back in & either see the GP or a nurse & chat about your management plan to see if it needs a tweak.
I can recommend some excellent online chess servers if you prefer
It’s very common for asthma to act up if you have anything respiratory. Once an attack has started you can try your peak flow meter. You’ll find you are getting air in and out. If you can’t use it, that’s a sign to call emergency. In the US that’s 911. On Doc Martin (big fan here) it’s 999.
