Hi guys hope you all had a good christmas

Was just wondering if certain foods and lack of water can affect asthma?

Many Thanks

Hey hope your Christmas was good

Yes

As obvious as it sounds... anything you have an allergy or intolerance to can cause issues. So too can dairy as it can make your mucus feel thicker and thus can make you feel like you’re issues are worse. Dehydration does thicken your mucus. More/thicker mucus = possibly worse asthma.

For me I have an egg intolerance and if my lungs are twitchy eating a nice cake can set them off whereas when their behaving I can eat cake ok (just no mayo etc). I usually avoid dairy as much as I can. Personally spicy/hot food can also trigger me so I stick to mild, as does alcohol (if that counts as food 😉) so I had very boring years at uni 😅

There’s probably other things that I’ve missed/forgotten but for some people there is a connection between asthma and some foods. Plus there is also reflux connected to some foods which can trigger asthma issues too

Hope that helps explain things a bit anyway

I am intolerant to gluten and lactose so I steer clear of these foods because they worsen my asthma and eczema.

I would recommend anyone with asthma or eczema to give up all lactose for a week and to give up all gluten for a week just to see if this makes any difference.

I find alcohol, particularly wine and cider sends me wheezy! For years I just found I was a bit wheezy after a night out which I put down to being part of a hangover (strange I know😂) then as my asthma worsened I found the slightest bit of it would set my chest off!

I’m exactly the same! It’s annoying even a few drinks triggers my asthma now!!! And certain foods especially dairy it’s a bloody pain and trial and error! But I prefer breathing to not 😉sonill be changing my diet and cutting out gluten and lactose.

I love a drink! It’s such a pain! But I can’t take the wheezy tight chest the next day it’s not even a hangover I just feel right chested and grotty, Prosecco is one of the worse culprits! I’ll have to pretend to have alcohol 🍷😂😂

Me too procecco is a killer! Currently having the most sober December I’ve known, sounds ridiculous to moan about all things considered but it was a big part of my life! 😂 maybe one day we will find a drink our chests will be happy with!? 😂

It’s not ridiculous at all it’s bad enough we have to suffer without giving up the booze 😉 I sound like an alcoholic 😂 I’m a sociable drinker but even that has started to come to a halt as I can’t cope with the right chest and wheezing for the next day 😢NYE is gonna be fun 🙈 we will have to invent a asthmatic alcohol!! 🙌🏻

Hahaha I know right, I need the booze to take the edge off! 😂 I’m bypassing NYE this year cannot deal with being around everyone else drinking whilst I’m sober 🙈 we really do need to invent something!!!
