Voice issues

Hi all

I'm in 2 minds about what causing my voice issues. I have been told by the docs that it's down to my asthma medication and causing acid reflux? I'm constantly clearing my throat which is worse after eating. My normal voice is okish but I struggle going to a higher pitch. The docs gave me omzaparole and ranidtine and a big tub gaviscon. This has been going on for 9 weeks now and it's annoying as hell. Last week my voice came back normal for about 4 days then started going bad again. I dont know what's causing it. Regardless weather I take the acid meds seems to make little to no difference.

Thanks for reading

Asthma medication sometimes causes thrush in the throat, which can affect your larynx. Cured usually by another medication!....but quite easily, then improvements in inhaler technique.

Such as use of a spacer, so that the inhaler doesn’t crash onto the back of the throat; brushing teeth after inhaler use, rinsing mouth with water, gargling a bit as you go.

But maybe you’re doing all this already??

I have the same issue if its thrush then you can treat it with medication. Just ask your doctor or nurse practitioner for it. Its called Nystan. You place it on your tongue after eating and best left for as much time as possible.

Thanks im going tk call the docs next week as im fed up with it. I will ask about this. Thanks

If it is acid reflux causing larynx problems this is possibly LPR or extraesophogeal reflux. It is thought the driver is pepsin which is released as an aerosol from the stomach and can get up as far as the ears. PPIs do not work for LPR.

Get your GP to refer you to ENT and have some proper investigations done. Theorising is all very well, but evidence would be better!
