Hi I’m new to this I would just like to ask if anyone suffers from a painful headache with asthma flare up . It’s my first symptom with a flare up followed by coughing then sore tight chest then the horrible green stuff and breathlessness and nothing works night and day it’s continuous until the steroids and antibiotics kick in usually that’s 5 days from onset to going off .... Gp and resp nurses not heard of this before but I’ve researched it and 1 article talks of asthma migraine. I’ve had migraine since I was 11 and it’s not the same. This is in the back of my head or the front ... anyone else have this ? Any help would be so appreciated
Thank you Caroline

As a teenager I would get an Asthma attack when I caught a cold or viral infection and this would normally trigger a headache at the same time but I dont think my asthma caused the headache.
Hi, I recently went through something similar I had continuous head ache for 5 weeks it hurt more when I moved about. I have asthma, had it since I was very young. I went to the doctors who thought I'd pulled a muscle in the back of my head. As the week went the headache never cleared untill I woke up and thought I befits allergies. Because I too was and still do now and again cough up thick green mucus. I went to the doctor again who agreed and gave me mometasone furoate a nasal spray and after a week or so the headaches went. I used it just before going to bed and noticed a huge decrease in mucus the next morning.
Thanks Dean I’ll ask the doctor about this, I need to do something it’s so bad I think I could cope with the asthma better without the bad head. So you think it’s a mucous build up ? . I’ve been researching again and read that it’s common .. a few reasons
1) allergy related asthma triggers histime to be released which gives you a headache and happens at the same time as the asthma flare up starts.
2) Migraine sufferers who then start with late onset asthma may find migraines get worse.
3) migraine and asthma are linked if you have one your predisposed to the other ... whatever triggers asthma has usually triggered migraine and vice versa
4) the continuous lack of oxygen throughout an asthma flare up by your body diverting oxygen to your lungs causes a crippling headache ( I’ve not explained that exactly right )
5) sinusitis
Roll on Sunday when meds kick in and head goes ....steroids kept me awake all night so been reading ... as you can tell
For years I kept getting told that it was reoccurring chest infections and kept being prescribed antibiotics and steroids then this one doctor sent me to the respiratory clinic who changed my inhalers from seritide 250 to symbicort and respimat. He said I never had chest infections all along and it was just poorly managed asthma and allergies. Since having the new inhalers 18 months ago iv had 1 lot of antibiotics instead of 15 to 20.
