Smoking or e cigs

Hi, does anyone still smoke and if so do you tell the asthma nurse ?

I just have e cigs after work only but I just can't bring myself to tell the nurses. They are OK actually but I don't feel comfortable at my surgery in general.

Not sure whether e cigs are bad anyway, there's conflicting stuff on the internet.

I used to smoke then switched to E cig 2 years ago ...yes I told doc and asthma nurse ...as this obviously will affect your lungs and could affect your treatment ...if you don't feel comfortable at your surgery maybe look for a more understanding one xx

I am trying to change surgeries ,V. The ecig is now put away in the drawer, I had the worst night since I don't know when.

Maybe the muggy warm air here, south coast. It gave me a scare so I will finally be sensible and no ecig or Xmas cigars etc.

Told consultant I was smoking vapor and he was OK, but I am not allowed near anyone who is smoking. I'm trying but apart from asthma I have anxiety problems and depression and mental health issues and since starting the new treatment uniphyllin 200mg one at night and one in the morning, I'm shakey and abit worried. I'm 43 and very lucky as I have family and my mum is round every day.

I've done 3 Pulmonary Rehab courses now, and am constantly amazed at the people who are in total denial that their COPD is caused by smoking!! PLEASE stop with the e-cigs, if they endanger your life, why would you still smoke?? I have never smoked, so maybe I can't understand but I am damned sure if a 'habit' was killing me I'd give it up. I lived with a smoker for years and have been told that his smoking has definitely made my lung problems worse (I have asthma and bronchiectasis and have spent a fair amount of time in hospital).

When I was younger I constantly heard smokers claiming their right' to smoke, but could never get across my point that surely I have a 'right' not to? Not to inhale their smoke. But MY rights don't count apparently.

Sorry, got sidetracked, back to your question. Definitely tell your doctor and asthma nurse if you still smoke, whether ciggies or e-cigs, they should know, and if you are nor happy with your surgery, for goodness sake, MOVE. Good luck with it all.

Well it's 13.30 ecig is in drawer upstairs and I'm drinking lots of tea.

Wife is out at the shops and her ecig is here but I'd never touch it, only to fill it for her. I know after tea, later about 17.00 it will be difficult but I will just think how scary my attack was...

I’d definitely tell your nurse or if you don’t feel confident maybe you should switch surgeries. Smoking will always affect asthma, e-cigs we don’t have enough information about to know how much damage they can and will do to people yet which is a problem. If you have mild asthma and still choose to smoke, then that is entirely your choice. But it can affect treatment so definitely tell your surgery :)

No ecig all day, C. Having vodka and pineapple juice , I don't drink much at all nowadays but brain is hurting at the moment.

I will go back to surgery when I can, I hate 'work' knowing my business.

Stop stressing its a killer if a few puffs of a e cig makes you better so be it!! It's your choice who you tell what. We are a well informed society we know the risks of smoking diet etc it's choice at the end of the day. Chill😊

Yes, agreed. It's a sunny morning and I'm sitting outside with tea but no craving for the ecig. I'm surprised but it is a combination of a bad nighttime asthma attack and a birthday coming up. I'm feeling good about it : )

Totally agree asthma is taking every thing away from me as I can't control the weather, I don't drink don't go out and have had attacks 1 every week for the past 6 weeks, stressed I am but like you say we know all about smoking or various other things and it's not going to be the thing to kill me off its the stress

Can I ask are your attacks at the same time of day or on the same day of the week or do they happen around something stressful or is there no triggers or patterns at all? Hope I'm not being nosey😊

Fighting against the weather and yes I've have noticed that if I'm going to shop I do get a attack my anxiety goes through the roof which sets my asthma off. But unfortunately I had a bad attack not long after having a shower and I needed the ambulance my attacks are getting more regular and consultant talking about me going to the London asthma hospital as Southend hasn't the funding, but ya part of t of this is my anxiety and just had test to see what else sets me off and so far it's the weather and dust. Trying my best but my body and mind are exhausted, and just talking to people from this site has made me feel a little better as in I'm not alone. Don't have Copd so that one good thing. Thanks for taking a interest.

Hi, mine are mainly when asleep. Cold nights and also some chemicals at work so I am being more careful at work.

Yes, a bit of stress, in my case a bereavement made me short of breath to the point where I had a check up at the asthma clinic.

You are welcome anytime. If another hospital Will help worth a shot, they will arrange transport for you if you can't get there. Get yourself a occupational therapist your Gp or asthma nurse can arrange this, maybe they can help you too. My asthma nurse sent one to me and offered me lots of things to help around the house and discussed my health etc she was very helpful and had lots of clients. You are never alone with asthma doesn't discriminate, it is stressful and exhausting😊

Does anyone have the respiratory care? I have been told that it's quite hard to get and I have also been told not to buy ebilozer as its harder for hospital and doctors to monitor you, and I get that as some people may over use it, on benefits and been told that I will have a fight to get pip but if anyone is out there that knows anything about this I would appreciate advice.
