Is there a link between asthma and hay fever then?, does one set the other off?. Sorry if they sound like silly questions but I’m new to it all. My daughter has been diagnosed recently.

Thank you 😊

Yes they often go together high pollen counts start me off I have already started using nasal spray and allergy tabs your daughter may also be hit by the very cold air if so breath through a scarf it might help

Thank you, it’s pretty bad here in the North East!. Snow storm after snow storm!. I shall be very aware of the pollen count this year too.... this snow will stop and it’ll be boiling next week knowing the UK🤪😂😂

There is definitely a link between some asthma and allergies, but not all asthma is caused by allergies. I am one of the latter, I think, but our daughter from having had fairly troublesome asthma when young went on to develop hay fever, which she found much worse. Now, as an adult, she has both. And a tendency to other allergies as well.

I’ve found that I’ve developed hay fever over the past few years.im the kind of person that just carries on despite my ailments not realising I had an allergy not just a annoyingly itchy nose/a cold all spring and summer!

It might be why I find it difficult to know what my daughter is going through. Am I missing asking the right questions. Is she allergic to the pets in our house (she will never part with her Guineas) how do I control that if she is??. Does it take years to be diagnosed?. She slept well last night, maybe because she’d been building snowmen all day at school and worn herself out!. I just feel a bit lost in what to do🤔. We’re seeing the nurse next week so hopefully we’ll get some more support then.x

Difficult, isn’t it. Our daughter was allergic when she was young, and it took a lot of detective work to sort out what. If it is realistic, just to get your daughter into the habit of washing her hands after she has touched her guinea pigs might help. I am allergic to cats, and know, for a fact, if I stroke them and then touch my face (without thinking of what I am doing obviously) I get ‘allergic eyes’, pretty badly. The other obvious one is antihistamines, but that I would discuss with your doctor.

I was diagnosed at one time as allergic to cat dander; I had some symptoms, but not as clear as you describe. I went on a course of desensitizing injections, and (touch wood) have never had trouble with cats since.

You are lucky! Our daughter tried to get those, as she is besotted with cats, but was told she was/is too atopic. Instead she got herself a lovely Siberian, and that has worked for her.

It's my impression that some cats I have an allergic reaction to, (most) others I don't. As a former microbiologist, this makes sense.
