Hello

I would like to know the difference between budate and salbair neb

This has been prescribed for my son now he has mild wheezing and cough. I just want to know what each inhaler does to his lunch and how he gets cured of wheezing. He has been prescribed like first budate 0.5 mg then after 20 min salbair neb 0.63 mg and after 20 min nasal Salian 5 ml.

This is the first time in past 3 yrs his doctor has changed the prescription, earlier he was suggested to use inhaler livolin and bunase.

What can I do for my son so that this wheezing does not go to asthma.

Please help

First of all, & I'm sure you already recognise this, but at this time there is no cure for the wheezing, only medication to manage and reduce it, which is what those inhalers do. To answer your last point first, unless others know different, there is probably very little you can do, other than recognising triggers that cause the wheezing and keep them out of his way. I suspect that the GP may already be presuming asthma, & the prescription would support that, but in many parts of the country they are prohibited from formal diagnosis of asthma until they are around 7 or 8 & can undertake better diagnostic tests.

Budate is a corticosteroid inhaler, commonly known as a preventer, which acts in the lungs to reduce the inflammation that leads to asthma symptoms.

Salbair neb meanwhile is a reliever, This provides short-term relief by relaxing muscles in order to open up his airways when he has a problem with symptoms. I'm guessing that it's a variant of salbutamol, which is a well-established reliever drug.

As a child grows physically, it's not uncommon for GPs to alter the prescription, as they become more able to both manage the medication and cope with different drugs. Indeed, doctors will often change all our medication from time to time based on how they think the patient is & how well under control the asthma is.

On the positive side, it's important to know that, especially in this day & age, well-managed asthma can be reduced to little more than a nuisance with intelligent management & good education of you & him in the majority of cases. My son had very severe asthma, including hospitalisation as a child, but has grown into an active, physically strong sportsman.

You will find bucket-loads of good advice on here from parents who have brought up wheezy children, or who are doing it now, so fire off any questions you have & good luck.
