Recurring chest infections.

Hi I am a 38 year old who keeps having recurrent chest infections every couple of months. I am then prescribed antibiotics and steroids to clear it up after a week its ok and then back it comes. I have been on this cycle for a couple of years now. All my x rays are always clear too. I am at a point of not knowing what else I can do. I am on Symbicort 400, Montelaukust tablets and Ventolin. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi Angelcake1979, welcome to the forum.

if you don't mind my asking, have you ever seen a respiratory consultant about this?

Hi! I was in exactly the same situation just a few months ago and was then referred to a respiratory consultant by my gp. He has been great: changed me onto the Symbicort SMART regime and added on spiriva respimat. I also take Montelukast as well. I have now gone 7 weeks without oral steroids - the longest for 2 years.

Your gp should be happy to refer you if you are having so many infections.

Hope you're soon feeling better.

Do a sputum test when next chest infections flares up, they will then know what bug your dealing with and give you the correct antibiotics. Definitely agree with being referred to a consultant. X
