Hi to all the community, I was told 2 years ago that I had difficult to control asthma after being rushed to hospital. The doctors found that I had pick up viral bronchitis that my body was not able to fight on it's own. On top of this it also set of late onset asthma. Fast ward to four weeks ago when I had the first of three asthma attacks, Attack number 1 it was my own doing as I was rushing to get the bus as I was late for work, Attack number 2 the school I work for change the floor cleaner to one which I know sets my asthma off and low and behold it did. I had to rushed to hospital by E.M.S. and had to stay in hospital. And Attack number 3 I had been coughing for a day and a half and it got so bad it turn into and a very bad asthma attack, this left me on Bipap /cpap as I did not want my wife to see me like that. Two weeks later I am waiting to see my doctor. When I was in hospital I was seen by a teaching Proffessor who said that i Should be on a nebulizer and have one at home as my asthma is so bad. What I want to is should I Push my doctor to give me or should I just stay on my puffers which only work 50% of the time.

You can ask your GP for an appointment with a specialist, who can help you find out how best to control your asthma. There are a number of issues here, such as allergies and perhaps infections and that your inhalers aren't helping. Only a specialist who can listen to all your worries can sort out the best medication for you. I know GPs are reluctant to issue nebulizers at home as patients often overuse them, but it may be what you need.

Good luck - and I hope you get it sorted soon.

Thank you for your replying to my post. I will fill you in on a few things that will help you understand my health at this time. 1. When I had my 1st attack 2 years ago I had all the tests under the sun including spirometry and allergie skin pick testing this found that I reacted to floor cleaner chemicals e.g. bleach, cigarette smoke, cats, house dust mites and some foods. 2. Here in Hong Kong once you have been admitted to an emergency hospital and have stabillized after a few days or up to a week. You can be if your lucky enough be transfered to a specialist hospital. This is where I was seen by a Respiratory doctor and a Respiratory Professor as my case was so unique for them. So once you are under a Respiratory doctor and for me a Professor you stay locked in with them. I do have a great GP who understands my asthma but I mostly use him for getting my flu shots and to have general check ups.

I have 3 to 6 monthly check ups with my respiratory team. This had been good up until my recent attacks. I was able to luckily get an earlier appointment with my doctors on the 13/4/17. Both my know that help me as my Professor saw one of my attacks and said that I needed to be Nebulized it as my airway was closing down and it worked but he did not want to have it as a home treatment at that time. But now I hope and pray that they will give me one if only for a back- up or as a regular treatment. I this time because I was sent to a different hospital and they just did not wanted to send me to my specialist hospital even when I asked many times. That just made my very upset and then after two and a half weeks in hospital I was discharged with no real answers why I had so high gas trapping with this attack and why my blood oxygen has dropped to between 86% to 94% or sometimes 95% and will stay there a bit but if I do some a activity it drops to the above.

I guess I will have to wait until I see my doctors.

Just let you know also like to let you know what med's I am on and if they work for you or if you also find them problematic as I do.

Yes I know I am on a lot med's all ready. Do you think that my asthma should be called difficult to controlled asthma or as believe it should be called severe asthma as I have alot drugs and symptoms all the time. 2nd question is do you think after what I have told you I should ask my doctors to have a nebulizer at home so that I can prevent another attack. Thank you for listening.
