Kenalog

Hi

My main asthma trigger is multiple allergies. I am very allergic to tree pollen so this time of year is always tricky for me. I have an appointment to get a kenalog injection on Monday (first time for me). Plan is for a 40 dose on Monday and if I am finding that ok then 80 in a month, hopefully this will result in me not needing pred.

Anyone able to tell me what to expect? How have people got on with it?

I'm afraid I can only quote what it says on this website:

medicines.org.uk/emc/medici... Intramuscular use: Where sustained systemic corticosteroid treatment is required: Allergic states, e.g. bronchial asthma, seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis. In seasonal allergies, patients who do not respond to conventional therapy may achieve a remission of symptoms over the entire period with a single intramuscular injection.

Sounds good! I can't find any specific side effects, at least not that I can understand, so the best person to ask is your doctor.

Thank you - it seemed a v good idea when it was suggested and I booked the appointment. I'm partly excited that it might work, partly worried in case it makes me all emotional (it probably won't) fingers crossed xxx

Hi Emily, I'd be very interested to see how you get on with this treatment as my consultant floated this idea with me as summers are terrible for my asthma due to pollen and needing multiple courses of Prednisolone. Let us know how it goes.

Was first suggested summer when I just couldn't get my asthma under control and I wasn't keen then. I'm thinking they re worth a go now. Pollen season is rubbish 🌸🌳

Jab was no bother, a tiny bit nippy but much easier than I thought (they did have my epipen out and ready) first 2 days I felt really super tired, like struggling to stay awake but that seems to be over now. Today was first day I noticed my asthma has been a wee bit better. Still coughing and wheezing but I've only taken my salbutamol twice today (which is huge improvement really on last week or so)

So far (I'm almost scared to say) I've not noticed side effects so fingers crossed. It's looking good so far 😊 xxx
