Cat allergy

Hi. I am fairly new to the site and this is my first post. I have an allergy to cats. Is there any advice about possible remedies apart from not getting near cats. I have a good friend I visit and her cat does affect me a lot. My lungs do close up and I have to take steroids. Thanks.

Hi nice to meet you and welcome to the site. I am sorry you are allergic to your friends cat. What you are allergic to is the animal dander which comes off it. You can get a spray from the vets to put on the cat which virtually stops this. It won't help of course with the cat hairs which will be around her home. Your friend will have to vacuum thoroughly before you visit.

One other thing which might help is to ask your friend to keep the cat in a different room when you go. x

Thank you for your reply. The spray sounds interesting. I am so sensitive that my friends whole house would affect me. She does vacuum and does all she can but it is a great problem. I will look into the spray option. x

Hi. Have you tried taking antihistamines for 2-3 days before. I've heard this helps. If you stay over take with your own bedding and sleep with the window open. 🙂

Hi. I will try that as have only taken antihistamines on the day of visiting. Will take for the days before. Thank you.
