Advice on viral induced asthma for my 3 year old.

Hiya

So my 3.5 year old son was diagnosed with viral induced asthma two years ago and has been on the brown and blue inhalers since then. He has been having montelukast tablets daily for 7 months and has been on oral steroids 5 times in the last 6 months! He is poorly every few weeks with cold etc and always goes onto his chest leading to an awful cough! We were told about another possible inhaler (the purple one) he could go on and were wondering what people's experiences were with it??? We really are desperate for more help and advice. Drs have been rubbish! 😥

Hi ya have you ever thought it could be allergy based.

When my son was 2 he suffered similar to you, eventually we stopped milk, he had yoghurts no milk formula or cows milk. We also started giving him daily vitamins of jelly Bassett and he improved greatly.

Thankfully now  19 asthma well controlled with occasional hiccup if he does lots of sport.

Worth a try. 😀

Sorry to hear this, poor little chap. My son was the same, always catching colds which went on his chest.  The purple inhaler you mention is probably Seretide, both me and my son are on it (he's 19 now and at university) - it's very good.

Is your son under a consultant?  My son was under a general paediatrician for many years, he was really nice but a bit ineffective. Things improved when he was transferred to a chest specialist who was more proactive.

Re. catching colds etc, my son used to take vit C and a multi-vitamin, I think that helped a bit.

All the best and I hope things improve.

As another poster says has he had an allergy test?

I used to get severe chest infections/asthma exacerbations every time I got a simple cold - would need oral steroids and weeks to recover.

But then I was diagnosed with severe allergy to cats (which we had). Now I live in a pet-free home, my asthma is under control and when I get a cold, that's all I get - no chest infections.

As your son is so young I would definitely push for an allergy test now if he has not already had one - it could save you years of this.

I'm on Seretide (the purple one).

Love it. It's been great.
