Hi all, this is my 1st post with the forum and I was wondering how people work with triggers in retail. I work in retail and since Christmas I have struggled with work and home life. My tolerance to any fragrances has hit rock bottom and since the end of January I have off work as I cannot control my asthma when close to washing powders, air fresheners, candles or even customers wearing perfume and aftershave. Has anybody had the same problem and how did you overcome it? My gp has organised an appointment to see a consultant followed by an appointment at a respiratory clinic but that is in April '15. If anybody has any tips or best practices that they can share I would greatly appreciate the help.
Thank you.

I am triggered by changes in air, perfume etc
I have found wearing a scarf, drinking plenty of water and sucking mints helps but that's been over many years.
I also eliminated everything and introduced things gradually it's a long and hard process but I know perfume is a big trigger and can now use spray deodorants
I found the dust was a trigger when I worked in retail - also catching colds from the public as well as strong perfumes etc as you describe. I used to take extra vitamins and drink a lot of water. Sucking mints is a good idea too. Hope things improve for you and good luck with the respiratory appointment,
Thank you for the replys. I'll try the mints and vitamins to see if that helps. Wearing a mask on the shop floor might be a bit scary for some customers. Thanks again.
My problem was with dust when remerchandising stock, this irritated my asthma, also my eyes and skin. I had no choice but to get on with it as my boss was not understanding or sympathetic so I just washed my hands regularly, misted my eyes with the Optrex spray and used my reliever. Fortunately perfume doesn't bother me, and I'm very grateful that it doesn't.
Sorry you've been so poorly. Good luck with the appointments.
