Recent 1st severe Asthma attack.

I have recently suffered (in the last 2 weeks) a terrifying asthma attack whereby I was taken to resuscitation within 5 minutes of arriving and a couple of hours later got taken into intensive care for 2 nights then nearly a week on the respiratory ward. After coming out my breathing doesn't seem to be improving and the tightness in my chest (especially my right lung) is not easing. (I have to have a bronchcoscopy to see if reflux (whilst sleeping I have been sick in my sleep) has made its way to my right lung and triggered this massive attack (along with the chest infection I also started with before. If anyone has suffered anything similar (which they will probably have done here :)) then I would be so grateful for some advice. I've had asthma for 12 years but until now have more or less kept it under control. Has anyone experienced the tight feeling in any of their lungs (along with constant breathlessness so as not to be able to talk very much?) I'm due to see the respiratory nurse in 2 weeks and have to keep constant records of peak flows etc. I take Symbicort turbohale and reliever but am unsure whether it is safe to take more than usual whilst my lungs are recovering. I am still on steroids and various preventative medicine. Many thanks to anyone with advice.

Hi,

I can sympathize with you, I had my first ever intensive care admission in May and I have only been asthmatic and well controlled for 6 years, I also suffer with chest infections. I am on Theophonline, montelaucast, Symbicort and Ventoline. They upped my dose of Symbicourt to 400 from 200 and put me on the theopholine im also on pred as well and i have been since March.

I would try and get in with your respiritory team at your local hospital if you arent already and your asthma nurse at your GP surgery and talk to them if you dont feel any better especially if it is concerning you as it would.

Hope this helps get well soon.
