Does anyone have problems with qvar mdi nozzle getting clogged or blocked? How can the nozzle be cleaned, an overnight soak in water doesn't do it. Poking fine wire into the nozzle can help but its very difficult.

QVAR MDI
Hi,
I'm so glad to see your post I had terrible problems with this to the point I recently asked my GP to change my inhaler...but that is another story!
The drug is not soluble in water so the worst thing you can do is wash in water - avoid at all costs. Also dont keep the inhaler in the bathroom. Be careful if you poke the nozzle as you can make th hole too big which just means you get a mouthful of propellant.
This may help you out. It didn't work for me and I continually had problems. Report the issue to your pharmacists they should replace any blocked inhalers but also get them to report it to the manufacturer. That way they might actually take note and do something about it.
Out of interest how far through the inhaler do you get before it blocks? For me it was halfway.
I never wash or clean the qvar mouthpieces, except to try and clear a blocked nozzle. I also find it blocks about half way through, after say 100 puffs. About 4-5 of
my branded TEVA qvar's have had this problem. I phoned TEVA in April and they said, predictably, that they nothing about such problems. I asked them about
obtaining new spare mouthpieces but they ignored my request.
I've just finished a generic non-branded qvar that I kept as an un-used spare, it was about 2 years old, it did NOT have the clogging problem, I was able to get 200 puffs, and am now using
the same mouthpiece/nozzle with a fresh TEVA qvar canister, and its still working fine. So I'm fairly sure the problem is related to defects in the mouthpiece nozzle rather than the spray. I'm
using it exactly as I used the branded qvar inhaler, so the clogging isn't caused by my technique etc.
Good idea to return a blocked qvar to the chemist, I'd not thought of that, I just order a new one.
Never had problems with blocking and clogging nozzles before cfc-free. (eg becotide)
