Is a memory foam ok for people with asthma?

Is memory foam mattress fine for people with really bad asthma?

I'd say it depends on the person - i have memory foam mattress & pillow, and love it

i would say though if you decide to get memory foam they come vacuum packed and often are a bit smelly to start (not sure what it is) so if you're sensitive to smells / odours etc try and find somewhere to air it before you want to use it. Or do what i did, buy a new mattress and put it on the bed uncovered on the day you go away for a week - well-aired on return LOL

we have a tempur mattress and absolutely love it. Thankfully we didnt have that awful problem with smell that some folk have when the mattress is new, but I expect that like all things, quality varies enormously. Its not affected my asthma, and I am a very allergic person generally. An aunt of mine has terrible migraines when she sleeps on their memory foam mattress, and is now relegated to sleeping in the spare bed with a massive reduction in migraines..

From what I know about memory foam beds like the others said just air it well first ! I tried a memory foam and a tempur mattress in the shops when I got my new one unfortunately as comfy as theyarea I cant get up off one due to the fact they adapt to the shape of your body my other probs mean I can't push myself up to enable me to get out of bed !! Ive got a posturepedic mattress now which is very comfy and helpful !

as well as being a brittle asthmatic/copd/bronchopulmonary dysplasia i am also a paraplegic. so i have a memory foam/anti bedsores matress. but when i got it i specifically made sure it is also anti dust mites as im very allergic to them. i also find strong smells a problem but didnt notice anything like tgat when i got this matress.

however as with almost anything i would say it depends on the person (and in this case the matress! ;-))

I have a 15 yo who has atopic athsma inherited from her grandmother. Very cold air, aerosols, and high level traffic fumes are known triggers. Oh, and very VERY spicy food, sometimes. I bought a memory foam topper for her bed, and her asthma came back. got rid, and it went away. I aired it for two weeks with the window open before she used it, turning it daily.

Personally, a Tempur bed was a nail in the coffin of my divorce. I hate the stuff, it's too soft, refuses to push back against the small of my back and aggravated my lower back to the point that I was in pain all day. I was far too warm too. Won't have it in the house.
