W have just returned from a one in static van with the above company, when booking this I explained I was ""acute asthmatic"" this was my disability.I made it perfectly clear I would require a ""no smoking van"". ( as last year we booked same company we were not asked smoking /non smoking silly me thought all accomadation was non smoking oh no )so we had to move out of the requested area to be in a non smoking ) for this inconvenience company refunded £50 voucher, so we decide to use voucher on yet another holiday. So what did we get ? van with a ramp.step in shower , doors that slide accross. a hook in middle of bedroom ceiling !!.Rusty pipe works around toilet.Bedding was dreadful, I think some of these are ""sublet"". by Hoeseasons and rely on staff at park to check on vans,we were just handed a key.
What did we not have ? central heated van. only heating was a gas fire fumes not good for me and a bright hallogen portable heater. the latter was like having a sunset in the room. we couldn't put these on during day as dried the air. gas fire was very difficult to ignite my husband had to get on his knees several tries and ""gas fumes"" later.
Moral to this story always ask is it non smoking. is it heated. This holiday cost us £340.

Hoeseasons holiday
Thank you all for sharing your experiences about your holidays, It has made interesting reading and I feel better ""getting it off my chest "". Maybe we have high standards ? but all I wanted to do is to make people aware who suffer with breathing difficulties to make companies aware of health problems when booking, Its not as if we get a reduction in cost . I dare say some fitter & healthier would have ""grin and bear it "",I feel better chatting to you all.
Thank you so much.
Pat

Unfortunately caravans with central heating and double glazing are classed as more luxurious . As such cost more than your normal caravan to book and usually banded in a higher rental charge. Shame you didn't enjoy your break . We love the haven park at berwick. Staff so friendly and always say hello . Even my wife who hated the caravan loves it .

I stayed in a real roach motel in Sicily once (we needed somewhere to stay the night so couldn't be picky). Not only was the room less than wonderful (holes in the sheets, mattress springs poking up, dirty condom in bedside drawer in case you hadn't worked out what sort of place it was, horrible bathroom etc), but we swore there were people loading a big black bag into the boot of their car during the night! In Sicily, best not to enquire/look too closely...

It's just dawned on me that others might not have been satisfied with my Hoseasons chalet and that I'm just easily pleased. It has often been pointed out that I don't ask for much, which is just as well because that's usually what I get (hee hee hee)
Oooh, I've just had another thought, slightly off Hoseasons but definitely in the area of horrible holidays - a friend of mine spent a lot of money on a short break in Bruges and discovered that the hotel was infested with bed bugs. Yuk!

I have to say in Hoseasons defence that we have stayed at many of there sites, manily log cabins over many years and never had a problem at all.
The last time we went was particuarily cold for that time of year and they made the effort to turn the heating up in the lodge prior to our arrival as requested, changed all the pillows to non feather (as they did state that some had feather) and fitted covers to them as well, and were generally very accomodating to our needs.
Guess there is good and bad in every company, ive stayed in many hotels with work around the world and some with what is thought to be an impecable reputation and had awful rooms and found better in a cheap hotel, so it is as many say the luck of the draw sometimes.
Sorry yours did not work out tho
Alex

It all sounds horrendous and I hope you complained at the time.
I have to say that I took my family to a Hoseasons site last year and although the chalet we had was obviously not freshly redecorated it was clean and useable and had clearly never been smoked in. It might have helped that I had a very long conversation with the girl on the booking line to get what I needed (lordy, I am so picky) and we had lots of laughs as we were doing it. By the time we'd finished she was discounting various places because they didn't have any non-smoking accommodation left, had the wrong sort of heating or were too hilly. I did end up compromising on the hills (easy to do when my son could drive me about) to get the right number of bedrooms and non smoking accommodation, and the result was that we had stunning views as a bonus.
I guess it's all the luck of the draw, really. I hope you have better luck with your next holiday.

i think having read your post that the moral of the story is dont book with Hoseasons ever!!! that sounds like a holiday from hell! how much did they do to fix the problems or to action your complaints? i would be writing to the operator of the camping place to make a formal complaint, as all that ruined your holiday and may have made you poorly and could easily have made both of you critcally ill if the gas fire didnt work properly!
i bet you're glad to be home in your own bed with safe heating and hot water, and cosiness around you.
thank you for bringing this company to our attention!
take care and rest well xx ><>
