what is the latest info on free perscriptions for asthma
Yep - you've still got to pay, I'm afraid! Either that, or move to Wales >
Asthma UK are still pushing for this, of course, but so are all the other health-related charities. I don't see the situation changing unless we get free prescriptions for everyone, and unfortunately I don't think that's very likely. Whatever happens, Asthma UK's website will keep you fully informed.
Living in Wales
Nothing wrong with living in Wales Free prescriptions is the only perk I get! we don't even get wheelie bins yet, just 2 rolls of black bags a year! I see it as a fair trade off as I get twice as much junk mail as I get it in two languages.
Being on numerous meds its saved me a fortune moving 3miles down the road which we did in 2000 before the ruling came in might I add. Does seem a bit unfair on my neighbours who have to pay and on everyone else who doesn't get help with paying for prescriptions.
Please no-one take offence, I am joking! I'm not doing an Anne Robinson.
Rabbit
Or move to Northern Ireland As far as I know they're abolishing it next year
It's not too bad here in Scotland, prescriptions are only £4. They are supposed to be abolished here next year but I personally don't see that happening.
What does annoy me is that I know people with diabetes who get all their prescriptions for free but I actually get ill more often through my asthma than they do with diabetes. Cant see how that is fair at all
The system does seem unfair and it's something I feel really guilty about when I read posts on here or pick up my prescriptions. I have an exemption certificate because I also have epilepsy but the certificate covers all prescriptions. I currently need only one medication a month for my epilepsy but I get my ten + asthma/allergy meds each month free too. Both conditions could cause serious problems (in fact for me I would argue that my asthma is more serious) but because of the arbitrary list I'm included when others wouldn't be.
If you do live in England and have to pay for your prescriptions it's worth looking into getting a pre-payment certificate as you can save a lot of money if you need multiple medications.
I'm going to look into pre-payment, especially with winter and chest infection time coming up fast!
I'll do some sums though as with prescriptions being £4 here in Scotland I'm not sure if it will be worth it
Might be worth it for me now though as I have had to start on Vitamin B12 injection every 3 months now too
