I love camping!
Hi,
I am an explorer scout leader and go camping lots and also went camping in april a few weeks after quite a bad attack. I made sure i took a bit tent so everything could be tidy and i could find stuff i needed quickly. Also, used a nice think thermorest and my duvet from home as well as sleeping bag (it was april!).
Also, the site had a bar so i could go into a warm / dry place when weather was damp and annoying my lungs. I also bought a puffa pouch so i could keep ventolin round my neck at all times and used glow-caps ao i could find inhaler in tent in the dark. Had all my meds in a see though zippy bag (with a copy my scout health info sheet ready to hand( in a bid to prevent tablets and inhalers from going on a little expedition of their own.
It was also my job to design menu and shop for 40 scouts so it was easier for me to sort out my own dietary requirements. Bit worried about this summer though as going to large international camp and meals are provided.
Hey Plumie,
I found when I went camping that taking an extra dose of anti-histamines helped. Like taking piriton on top of fexofenadine. It helped my allergies alot which in turn stopped my asthma being as bad.
Another thing is to make sure you shower daily, because the pollen sticks to your hair etc.
Hope this Helps!

Hi plumie,
Best wishes for a super camping trip. This year will be my first holiday with asthma and we're going wild camping to top left hand corner of Scotland. We're reprising earlier holiday mid-80s - see what, if anything, has changed. Quick peek at Google Earth would suggest Not a Lot!
Thanks vicky,
I will remember to wash my hair more than usual. Already stocked up on extra antihistamines for the dreaded midge. Lochinver has the worst! There, they even bother people who don't normally get bitten.
Jemima, glow caps sounds a great idea. Save scrabbling around.
Thanks plumie, for posting the question, I for one have learned some.

Sorry could not resist
Hope you have a lovely time

I have gone camping with my hubby and kids in Aug for the last 5 yrs and thankfully have had no major problems.
A shower every night is def a must. Do you have electric hook up? I find that great for my portaneb and only use omron while out.
Make sure you shut yr doors quite early in the eve to prevent the worst of the pollen and biters coming in(saying that the worst of the grass stuff should be over by then)
As is common sense with all holidays ensure u know where the local GP and costa are located.
If the weather isn't warm(i hope it is )have something over yr mouth when u first go out in the morn as the damp can be abit of a shock to the lungs.
Make sure u bring everything important in b4 the evening dew comes down or u have dam stuff inside the tent and if u are unlucky enough to have rain again try and not bring wet stuff into the tent - unfortunately last yr in N Devon we had 10/11 wet days and wet clothes/ shoes at times aggravated the lungs.
Citronella candles are good for keeping bugs at bay by the door of the tent if u can tolerate the smell.
Just enjoy it and try not to worry about yr lungs unless they give u cause too.
Thank you for all your tips!
I am going to look up local GP and Costas. I dont have electric sockets but i do have my car so i can connect one of my nebs to that which will help.
I am really excited i cannot wait to go. I am just trying to locate a bag big enough to accomadate my medication but now on your tips thinking of getting two clear zip bags.
Thank you again!
