hi Mikeymike

try putting something under your bed to raise your head up.

I find that stardrops is good as you can make it to what strength you can cope with ,hope that helps xxx

Dust and allergy protecters for mattress and bedding helps. Cheapest I've seen is from Harry corry shop..

stardrops is in a bottle and a mild cleaning product you can use it on lots of things in most shops xxx

Fistly, do you have carpet in your bedoom? If you do and can afford it get rid of it and get proffessionallt laid flooring. I am about to have all the laminate ripped up replaced with a cushion flooring that looks like laminate put down as it turns out laminate is not as lung friendly as used to be thought.

When was the last time you had a matress, if the answer is anything other than in the last 2 years get a new one and put a special cover on it, it worth paying for a decent cover too.

My new duvet can be washed at 60 degrees which will kill house dust mites and it gets washed every 3 months simply because I have a washing machine that has a huge drum and easily cope. Don't be tempted by all the stuff they put on the boxes about allergy friendly etc they get around it by putting somewhere they are only allergy proof for 12 months or some such. I throw away my pillows and have new ones every 6 months they are so cheap these days it is cheaper to do it that way rather than spend money on covers or hours hunting out ones that will wash at 60.

HDM or rather their poo is what sets people off in bed or in the morning it sort of hoovers in the air at about 2ft and below usually just at the right place for you to inhale them through the night. If I were on a budget I would change my duvet (you can find ones that wash at 60 for the same price as those that wash at 40 but you must check the lable) and pillows and put a cover on my matress so at least you are keeping the HDM's in. I would save up for a new matress and make it a priority. I would also look at getting the carpet steam cleaned again it is short term option unless you want to get that done every 6 months but it will deal with the immediate problem.

De-clutter the room as far as possible especially books, get rid of any soft toys or bag them up and put them in the freezer for 72 hours and do that roughly every 6 months. HDM are remarkably resiliant little blighters it needs to be very hot or very cold to kill them!

If you are in recipt of income support you can ask for a grant to help towards the cost, it is worth looking around and seeing if there local grants as well. Might be worth asking your CAB for help as they often know about the local charities and grants available.

I hope some of this helps, I am sorry there is no quick or cheap way of getting around the problem.

Bex

Hi, Bex has nearly covered everything, but another thing when dusting any where just a damp cloth (micro fibre ones are good), for general removal of dust a damp cloth is sufficient. For deeper cleaning white vinegar is excellent, google it you will be surprised at its uses around the home.
