Hi all I'm new, my name is Becci. My son has just been diagnosed with asthma. I am a bit daunted by all the info I have been given at the hospital. It all seems so much to take in. I guess I'll get used to it soon. He has 2 inhaes. One twice a day and one as needed.
Just wanted to say hi really. But any advise would be very much appreciated.
Nice to meet you all.

Hi Becci,
Welcome to the AUK fora, you have found a very good source of support and information. I'm sorry to hear about your son. How old is he? We have quite a few parents of asthmatics on the site, of all different ages and severities.
It is always a bit confusing and daunting at first, but you will quickly get used to it all. Do feel free to ask any specific questions, but I would suggest that for general information, you click on the heading 'All about asthma' at the top of the page, and have a trawl through. There's some excellent information there.
For specific queries, it might be best to post your questions in the 'Parents and Carers' forum (click on it to the left) as that's where most of the 'expert parents' hang out. For general socialising and chit-chat, hop over to the 'Camping' thread in 'General forum' and say hi!
One thing that it's always worth warning new folks about - this board attracts a disproportionate number of severe/difficult/brittle asthmatics who have a lot of problems in managing their condition, and may have frequent hospital admissions, be on a great deal of medication, etc. This is not the norm for asthma! The vast majority of people (95 - 97%), once the correct combination of medication is found, can be almost completely controlled, with little or no effect on their lives. There is no reason to think that your son will not be in this group. So please don't be concerned or frightened by some of the more extreme experiences that you see discussed on here - they are unlikely to apply.
Looking forward to finding out more about you and your son.
Take care

Hi
Many thanks for your post. My son is 6yrs old. I think he has had it for a while, but the doctors took forever and he had to have a really bad attack before they would even refer him.
Thank you for reassuring me. I did read on here a post about how it can flare really quickly and hey needed to go to hospital straight away. I must admit I kept worrying all night, that it would happen in the night, I couldn't sleep very well.
