The only other long acting bronchodilator like Salmeterol is Formoterol.

It comes packaged as Oxis Turbohaler, Foradil dry powder inhaler and a new one I haven't heard of, Atimos Modulite MDI ( Aerosol)

Formoterol is also found in Symbicort combination inhaler along side a steroid.

Was it an aerosol or powder inhaler? Sometimes the propellant in the aerosols and the powder in the others can cause problems.

what side effects did you have??

Many thanks Kate.

Yes its an inhaler not a powder, i take it with my steroid inhaler 2 puffs morning/night.

made me very very tired the last couple of days, headache, tremors in my arms (i usually get a tremor anyway with my salbutomol... but this makes me more than usual and a bit fidgety.... and a pain in my left shoulder!! the headache makes me feel not dizzy as such but i guess you could say confused and cloudy.

all the symptoms you've listed are reported side effects. If you read the leaflet that came wit it, it lists them, but the side effects do get less as you use it longer. I had muscle cramps to start with, but they are now fairly rare. If you are seeing you nurse on tuesday, then do tell her the problems.

If your asthma peakflow readings or symptoms are no worse than before you started, try and stick it a little longer, but you should have already notice an improvement in your PF readings if it's working.

Just to add my say...

I didn't really suffer from side effects of serevent but it just didn't work for me. I can't take accuhalers/turbohalers effectively, and had an allergic reaction to symbicort- so oxis was a no go for me. My consultant sourced Atimos modulite for me. I am not convinced it is a lot more effective but I am on so many meds it is probably difficult to tell. Just a word of warning- no pharmacy ever has Atimos in and if you forget it in hospital takes them a couple of days to get it. Not sure why.
