First course of Pred - Any advice?

Just got my first course of pred, any advice? Anything I need to know/worry about? The info leaflet sounds awful!!

how long are you on it for... dont worry bout anything, it wont do you any good!! the info leaflet is great...for scaring people...the way i look at it is, when you start notising difference in your body etc mention it to your gp/asthma nurse and see what they think, if they wory then you should be concered!

but if your on a short dose and with it being your first dose, you shouldnt have any problems apart from them doing your lungs wonderes!!

I've got 20mg for 7 days - am looking forward to my lungs working well again, this is my first bad experience and its scared me!! LOL. Will put the info leaflet in a cupboard and forget about it and just listen to my body. Thanks xxx

yeah definatly listen to your body, it is the best thing...pred is fantastic and that is a reasonable dose aswell, im on that maintanance and it works wonderes for me! definatly consult someone if your at al worried...i chuck all drug leaflets in the bin as otherwise i would read to much into them.

My advice would b to read the leaflet it's there to give u the info u need to know about the drug . If any concerns speak to ur gp or practice nurse ..

I was put on a short course of pred a while ago - 2 weeks reducing starting from 40mg. Leaflet scared the hell out of me too but it was fine (also didn't really work but I wasn't on anything else at the time and tend to have a weird reaction to these things). I didn't notice many side effects as it was just 2 weeks though did have a bit of trouble sleeping sometimes.

Thanks for your advice. Any idea how long before it'll kick in?

Oh and they start to dissolve before you can swallow and taste revolting!!

YOu should be fine if it is your first course, don't worry about the list of side effects, if you are taking the doses for long periods of time, then there is potential for problems, once your asthma is well controlled then you can reduce the medication that you take.

I have been taking the same dose as you recently and the main problems I have had is sleep difficulties and some increased appetite. But as others say, it is soooo nice to be able to breathe again! I hope you get along all right with them and feel better soon.

Ps if you're on the generic White tablets, take them with a drink of milk. Disguises the yucky taste a bit more. Well done if you got the little red smartie type.

I haven't really noticed any side effects as yet (been taking them for 4 days), my appetite still hasn't returned from during my attack. I've had trouble sleeping but I'm not sure if this is the meds as i keep waking up short of breath, no other symptoms tho?! Also my lungs still feel a little 'twitchy', but my PF's are heading upwards which must be a good sign.
