weight gain

Hello, As anyone put on a lot of weight since having asthma, for instance prior to 2007 when first diagnosed and still working, my weight was a around 14st, now i am 18 st and have been up to 19st+.

I also notice the seritide 250 now now states weight gain as a side effect.

A few short years ago i was a very healthy eater, but now i crave junk food and do not eat such an healthy diet,

For instance everyday i would eat oats soaked in orange juice, apples tomatoes, lettuce a small peice of meat, rice, pasta, olive oil, onions etc.etc., now i cannot touch orange juice as it causes acid and reflux.

Same thing with apples, sick to death of bananas, i used to make a lot of homemade curries and chilli con carnes, tajines, chinese stir fries etc, but any hint of chilli or pepper has my stomach doing acid and reflux dancing and food without flavour is not worth eating.

So now i eat on impluse, buying junk more often than not.

Exercise is limited to a 1 mile most days, which leaves me totally exhausted and with the old tight and burning chest.

Any advice please, i am pretty desperate to loose weight.

Hi I eat pretty healthily, lots of home cooking. I've put on a stone since having asthma bad. I'm trying to loose weight but have trouble exercising as my asthma is really bad. I ate less on steroids but still put on loads of weight.I'm well fed up. A friend is starting a diet not eating carbohydrates for 2 weeks, you are allowed veg though no fruit. May give it a try. I hate diets.

As exercise is one of my triggers and I am generally active, but cursed with a sweet tooth I've noticed my trousers getting less roomy than they used to be. I have bought a pedometer and am using it to try and increase the amount of walking I do as that and swimming are the only forms of exercise I tolerate fairly well at the moment.

Have you considered swimming? I know that for some people the chemically scent of the water is a trigger, but the warm, damp air really helps me.

hi mal 5050.

I put a little weight on with asthma and steroids and exercise sets my lungs off now and noticed

its harder to loose it when not as active.

hope the summer and all the rabbit food will help me .love Glynis xxx

Looked at my diaries. I'm eating less and don't buy biscuits or do home baking as much. hardly ever buy things like potatoes anymore. But I'm a bit on the big side, still.

Time to buy a shed-load of Slimfast and get out the rowing machine again. :(

I dont eat alot but never seem to loose any weight,so counting callories so can see how many

Im having and what im eating each day for a week.then can alter what I need to .xxx

I too am overweight - I used to be really slim and my husband not infrequently says I need to lose weight. The bottom line is that I need to eat less, eat more healthily and exercise more! The trouble is if I don't feel well, I don't exercise and I don't know about other people but I eat a lot of 'comfort' food. Also the steroids increase my appetite massively AND I have a very sweet tooth. Don't know if it's any help mal5050 - we all know what to do but it's having the will-power....

weight Gain

I am in exactly the same position. I was on steriods for 15 years sometimes on very high doses and now I am very obese. I have been off the steriods for a couple of years now but find it so hard to losse weight, I have the acid problem and are now on tablets for this. I take high doses of Nuelin tablets now and these make me feel so bad. Does anyone else feel grotty on these? The problem is they make me want to sleep all day and then i do not exercise and put on more weight it seems to be a cycle.
