Muscle weakness

Random query has, anyone one else experienced severe muscle weakness especially in their legs causing them the inability to walk properly because of pred and low cortisol? I'm concerned as it is happening to me and it is looking like I'm starting to get foot drop to :(

I do get muscle wasting with oral steroids. Over the first few weeks I will usually lose weight as I lose lots of muscle bulk particularly from my thighs. I have been told that apparently the muscle wasting/weakness I get with steroids is worse than most people. The muscle wasting will be more obvious if you are slim.

It does give me problems with walking but I do have an unrelated issue with balance.

Not sure if I can offer any helpful suggestions! What does your consultant say? I tried oral steroids over than pred and now take dexamethasone (though usually it is worse than pred!). The only other thing is doing exercises like squats and lunges when you feel up to it. When you feel bad you can do leg exercises lying in bed, like simple leg raises which should help a bit.

Take care

Yep. Really severe almost unbearable pain at times. Then I got a stress fracture and walked around on it thinking it was the same pain as the intensity was the same. They thought I was moaning about the same thing till they took an X-Ray - oops. Still, at least they understand now the level of pain I'm in, not that they can do much about it.

Thanx guys...cons said its going to happen because of steroids, and im now waiting fir physio as he also thinks im getting foot drop...he just said to me though these are yhe problems your going to get and its either breath with side effects or dont breath...blunt i guess but true...just hate walking like a drunken chicken now lol xx

Drunken chicken - love it! I shall remember that when I'm struggling and hopefully it'll cheer me up. :) I've been given the same - well at least you're breathing speech and the well you have to accept some side-effects speech. I guess they're right, but it's still not what you want to hear. Plus, I have a sneeking suspicion that asthmatics are among some of the most stubborn people on the planet and we don't take too kindly to being told things like this!

Im going to have to get a chicken drunk now just to see what it looks like! And yes those speeches annoy the hell out of me to, these are always the people that have never been in the situations themselves!

And yes us asthmatics are very stubborn, but look what we have to put up with every day and night!

Has any1 heard ne the salbutamol infusion and if theyd recommend it?!
