I am off work with a chest infection and am looking at my Omron MicroAir, which I have been using quite alot over the last few days. It looks like it needs a clean but I have lost my instruction manual. Can I boil the parts or use disinfectant solution?? Cant remember and dont want to damage the parts.
No, not nebbed saline to clean it - needs to be sterile or distilled water - you can get it in 5lt containers from chemists. (Also can get water for injection - but POM - I managed to wangle some for traveling)
You can also use dilite white vinegar to clean the mesh too.
Also the contact points can be cleaned with alcohol (or a steret!) as occasionally they get a bit gunky!
Not tooo bad at the mo, chugging along with the s/c but need to be well next week for my interview ........ for a job in the Falklands!
I use nebulised hypertonic saline for bronchiectasis. I had to have a test dose in hospital as nebbed saline (in any concentration) can cause impressive bronchospasm! So just in case any residual gets left behind... Probably nota good idea.
Like Kate I use water for injection.
On the subject of omrons how often do people change the filter roughly?
The refference to nebbed saline was in cleaning the mesh. It wasn't for nebbing and inhaling. People were asking about how to clean the mesh and the recomended method is to put Sterile water in the unit and run it for around 30 seconds to clean any residue off after the unit has been used for nebulising drugs.
I know how ordinary saline can cause tightness and coughing!
Regards changing the mesh - I am told that they can last for many years if you look after them. Though I have a spare just in case.
Denture stuff / sterident - Excellent! Though bit embaraing buying the stuff!! LOL! Tescos value is good!
