Hellooo!

I am not sure? I am registered with the local council and social services but have no letter, ID or proof to say so etc. I do get DLA too but whether they inform the local council I am not sure. They will have your name ona list if you have a blue parking badge though.

If you need to prove disabled (less able boddied I prefer) status you can use a copy of your DLA entitlement letter or your Blue badge (as long as it isnt stuck in your car in a disabled parking space!LOL - had that one once getting in somewhere - to get a discount show disabled parking badge - but badge was in car in designated parking place etc so couldn't take it with me!)

Kate

thanks for that info kate moss.anyone elso got anymore info

Hi tys mum,

I'm a doctor and I've never been quite sure what this means! As Kate says, there are various people like social services who keep a list of people who are on their books, but it's not a complete list. I get DLA and have a Blue Badge but I've never been referred to social services, OT etc, so I wouldn't imagine I'm on their list.

When I was working and had to fill out forms for patients that asked this, I used to tick 'yes' if they received DLA or Attendance Allowance, had a Blue Badge, or were known to social services for care needs. I don't know if that was the right way to go about it, but no-one ever came back to me on it.

Hope this helps

Em

There's no such thing as being registered disabled anymore. It got fazed out some years ago. As I understand it you used to get a card with a number on it to say you were registered disabled. I know some companies stil ask for this on application forms but they should be asking if you consider yourself to have a disability under the DDA. You are covered under the DDA as a disabled person though because you have a long term condition which affects day to day activities. You don't have to discolse this information if you do not wish but it helps a lot when you are claiming discrimination as a result of your disability.

As Kate said social services keep registers of people with different impairments so they know how many disabled people are living in the area. Having said that you do not have to go on the register and can refuse. I was asked when I was registered blind instead of being registered partially sighted if I wanted to be on the register or not. It also gives them a chance to come out and give you a home visit to make you aware of services you may be able to have.

Beth

thank you for the advise.how do you get a blue badge?

Thanks Beth, you'd think that's the sort of thing I'd know really! I didn't think there could be a formal list or I'd have been asked to fill in forms about it at work I'm sure.

Tys mum - you can get a form to apply for a blue badge from most GPs, libraries and post offices. There's a bit you fill out and then your doctor fills it out too. If you're getting one for a child the child has to be over 2. I think the doctor has to sign to say that the disabled person can't walk more than 100 metres without significant difficulty. It's generally easier to get than DLA, they are a bit less rigorous and generally don't vet applications so throughly so it doesn't take as long either. If you get the higher mobility component of DLA you are automatically entitled to one.

If you do get one it's worth ringing your local City Council because most of them do a map showing all the parking spaces in the area.

I got my application form from the local county council website you could just download and send. They were very quick as well. I have only just had contact with the 'adult care services' locally and have found them very helpful too. Presume that means am now on thier register as such.
