Hi tys mum,

I'm sorry to hear he's had to have three courses of pred in such short succession. Most people should be able to take a course of five days of pred and then stop without needing to cut down slowly. The hyperactivity you're describing sounds like it's more likely to be due to the residual effects of the pred on his body, rather than stopping the pred - if this is the case, now that he's off it, it should settle down.

Another explanation could be that he's using increased amounts of salbutamol now that he's not on the pred - this can make some children very hyperactive. If this is the case, he needs to see a doctor, as increased use of his salbutamol might imply poor control and that he needs more pred. Theophylline and aminophylline can also cause hyperactivity, so if he's on one of these, it might be worth getting his levels checked.

Either way, it's worth mentioning to the consultant tomorrow... good luck.

Take care

Em H
