difference between CT and x-ray

can anyone please explain the diff betwenn an xray and ct scan have had both which think showed diff things but what diff is exactly am not sure - cathbear, em or anyone please?

An X-ray just shows a 2D flat image of dense and less dense tissue.

eg Bone, metal, lung gunge is Denser and shows up as white.

A CT scan is a 3D image ( Computerised Tomography) and shows more detail.

A CT scan will give alot more detail as to whats going on in the lungs and will pick up on things a chest xray can't
