any1 know much about dexamethasone

I have just returned from a hospital check up and they have stopped my pred steroid (have been on 40mg a day for the past 4 months and have now changed me on to dexamethasone 8mg daily. What is the difference between the 2 steroids and y would they change it

Hi Kipo hope you are managing ok at the moment.

Dexamethasone is about 5 times more potent than Prednisolone so it is different in in terms of potency. Dexamethasone is one of the most potent steroids hence why its obviously only 8mg a day compared to 40mg of Prednisolone.

As for why it was changed I wouldn't know I'm sorry hopefully someone who knows more about it will come along. A possible reason may be its less tablets to take (I assume).
