I had an op not that long back, told staff about my asthma they just made me take plenty of salbutamol before I went down to theatre so my airways were nice and open before my op and I was absolutely fine

Inform the aneasthetist of ur asthma. I had an xray to rule out any chest infection. They gave me xtra salbutamol before and immediately after.

I've had 3 ops in recent years. Told the consultant well before hand and consultant anaethetist came to see me before operation to ask about my medication and how I was. Had ventolin reliever before going under and kept ventolin in my hand! When I started coming round, I had several puffs. Everything went fine.

You specifically asked if anyone has had an op when asthma has been bad. I don't think they would operate if asthma was bad, suppose it depends what the op is and how long you are 'out' - but you'd best check with doctor about that.
